Elijah: Let the Fire Fall
Elijah: Let the Fire Fall
Series: Elijah
Topic: Evidence of God, Faith, Surrendering to Christ, Worship
Book: 1 Kings
In 1 Kings 18, Elijah confronts Israel with a question we must also answer: Will we follow the Lord, or keep dividing our hearts between Him and other gods? The showdown on Mount Carmel exposes the powerlessness of Baal and reveals that the Lord alone is God. Elijah’s prayer makes the purpose of the encounter clear: that the people would know God and have their hearts turned back to him. When God answers with fire, the people fall before him in worship, and the rain that follows fulfills his promise to end the drought. This passage calls us to abandon our competing loyalties, return wholeheartedly to the Lord, and depend on Him in prayer.
