Summer in the Psalms: I’m Not Enough (And I Don’t Have to Be)
Scripture: Psalm 131:1-3, Job 5:7, Psalm 42:5, Proverbs 16:18, John 14:27, Psalm 23:4, Philippians 4:4-7
Psalm 131 invites us to confront the exhausting delusion of self-reliance and admit a freeing truth: we are not enough – and we don’t have to be. When crisis, complexity, and our own limitations exhaust our resources, God offers another way: the childlike faith that releases pride, control, and the need to have everything figured out. Like a child resting securely with a parent, we can learn to quiet our hearts and trust God’s presence even as we walk through life’s darkest valleys. This kind of faith doesn’t remove every storm or battle, but it gives us confidence, rest, and a peace that surpasses our understanding. Ultimately, Psalm 131 calls us to stop placing our hope in ourselves and to rest confidently in the Lord, both now and forever.
