Short Term Mission Trip Application

Before Applying

It is important to understand before applying that a short term trip is more like a 4- to 6-month commitment, with multiple team meetings of several hours each, depending on the trip and preparation needed.

Also know that trips to different places and cultures stretch us and, by definition, move us out of our comfort zones. You will need to trust your leaders for many things you may not understand, and submit to their authority for the duration of the trip. During team prep, your team leader will discuss attitudes that make or break a team, and the importance of being humble, flexible, and teachable. If you do not feel you are ready to join a team with those expectations, it would be best to hit ‘pause’ on applying for a trip and talk with a friend, mentor, or Community Group leader.

Short term trips are a small part of the long term ministry of our partners, so our plans are necessarily driven by their plans, goals, and schedules. We organize trips to help people find and follow Jesus alongside our partners, to expand our own worldviews, and to join in God’s heart for the nations. Our hope is that short term trips result in personal life transformation as well as long term commitments to pray, give, go, and send others.

Team sizes are limited, and priority is given to active team members of NLCC. All team members must be in alignment with the mission, values, and doctrinal statement of NLCC.

• I am willing to submit to the authority and direction of NLCC leadership, the trip leader and field leaders.
• I agree for NLCC to perform a background check with the information I have provided.
• I am committing the time and energy necessary for all pre-trip meetings, training and tasks and post-trip responsibilities. Furthermore, I understand that my involvement on this trip can be denied prior to travel if I do not participate in the full preparation of the trip.
• I’m ready to be uncomfortable, go some hard places, eat some new foods, build some new relationships, and serve our partners in any way I can (whether it’s on the official schedule or not) to help people find and follow Jesus!
• I agree to return home at my own expense if the leadership of the field, team leader, or NLCC determines my behavior has been inappropriate and therefore jeopardizing the long-term ministry.
• If my application is approved, I agree to pay the trip deposit immediately upon approval. I also understand that this deposit is non-refundable and that all future donations by me, or on my behalf by others, are non-refundable.
