Rhythms: Prayer & Fasting

Series: Rhythms

Book: Luke, Matthew

At the core of every human heart is a longing for abundant life—but the paths we often take to find it fall short. Cultural secularism promises freedom with no boundaries, while religious piety offers achievement through rituals—yet both leave us dry. What Jesus shows us is that the abundant life isn’t found in doing whatever we want or ticking spiritual boxes, but in adopting His rhythms—His habits. Prayer and fasting, two of the most overlooked practices in the modern church, are actually portals into the power, presence, and intimacy of God. They’re not just disciplines, they’re invitations. Jesus Himself lived a life steeped in prayer, and He assumed His followers would too. Fasting, often paired with prayer in Scripture, intensifies our spiritual hunger and tunes our hearts to heaven. If we want lives marked by spiritual power, breakthrough, and deep joy—we can’t live without these ancient practices. They lead us, not to more religious effort, but to a deeper relationship with God Himself.
