#BLESSED

If you spend any time at all on social media, you’ve seen the “hashtag blessed” trend. It’s usually just a way for people to humble-brag. But as American Christians, God really has blessed us both materially and spiritually in ways most people throughout human history could never have dreamed of. But what is God’s grand purpose in blessing us as He has? The Scriptures are saturated with the scandalous truth that God has blessed us so that we would be a blessing to others. Jesus commanded His disciples to go into the nations and make disciples. In Genesis 12, God called a pagan man named Abram and his barren wife, Sarai, to go to a foreign land. God promised to bless all the families of the earth through them. It was through the lineage of this most unlikely couple, that God would eventually send the Messiah to bring salvation to all peoples. Abraham teaches us a lot about how we should respond to God’s call to go. We see that blessing motivates mission. That the promises of God are experienced in obedience. That risks in the Kingdom of God are worth it, and that faith is the currency of Jesus’ Kingdom. God has called His people to go into their neighborhoods, cities and nations with the blessing of the good news. If you love Jesus, you have been blessed and you have been blessed in order that you might be a blessing to others. Will you put your yes on the table and let God put it on the map? Will you pray a radical prayer like that and trust God with whatever He asks you to do?
