The Story Begins
The story of New Life of Asheville began with a concept by Steve Harris of an Asheville-based church that would focus on loving God and loving others. In March of 1997, 20 couples gathered to hear the vision and pray for direction. That night, the funding for the first year was pledged and New Life Community Church was born among Asheville churches. In April of 1997, New Life began meeting at the Buncombe Baptist Resource Center to study the biblical basis for a New Testament church.
On June 1, 1997, New Life Community Church held its first Sunday worship service at a Seventh Day Adventist Church in Asheville. In September of that year, the church moved to Little Beaver daycare center in North Asheville. New Life met at Little Beaver for a year and a half until January of 1999, when they moved to Ira B. Jones Primary School in North Asheville. This larger facility allowed for growth and more opportunities for service and outreach. In the spring of 2000, New Life received a special blessing when Asheville Community Church decided to unite to create one church.
The Story Continues
New Life of Asheville, NC continued to grow over the next four years as God blessed it with 23 acres of land less than 10 minutes from downtown Asheville. As funds came in, a permanent facility was constructed, and by the Fall of 2004 the work was completed.
New Life Community Church held its first Sunday service in their new facility on October 17, 2004. As the people of New Life, we have seen and been amazed by God's faithfulness throughout all the chapters of our history. We have seen people come to Christ, families healed, marriages restored, and new lives begun. We are so excited about what God is doing here and invite you to join with us for the next chapter.
